Juan Díaz-ColungaGroup Leader

Juan holds a BSc in Physics, an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, and a PhD in Biophysics. Before joining the Spanish National Research Council as a junior group leader, he conducted postdoctoral research at the UAM School of Medicine and at Yale University’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, where he worked in the laboratories of Álvaro Sánchez and C. Brandon Ogbunugafor. He is broadly interested in the fields of systems biology, evolutionary genetics, and microbial ecology.

Outside the lab, he enjoys movies, videogames, and all kinds of sports.

Alicia Rodríguez-CárdenasLab Manager

Alicia holds an advanced technical qualification (FPII) in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Sciences. Before joining the lab, she worked in plant microbiology at IMIDRA, and in cell culture and immunology at CBM in Madrid. She also gained experience in clinical diagnostics at the Central Veterinary Laboratory of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture.

Outside the lab, she enjoys music, playing the saxophone in jazz and big bands, studying psychology, and spending time in nature and hiking.

Anna SigalouPostdoc

Anna holds an MEng in Mechanical Engineering, an MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences, and a PhD in Statistics. Before joining the lab, she worked as a teaching assistant in Statistics at the University of Leeds. Her previous research focused on collective animal behavior, particularly sociality and decision-making, but she is broadly interested in using mathematical models to study interactions and long-term behavior in physical systems.

Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, exercise, cooking, and occasionally crocheting.

Ricardo León-SampedroPostdoc

Ricardo holds a BSc in Biology, an MSc in Microbiology, an MSc in Bioinformatics, and a PhD in Microbiology. Before joining the MSBlab, he worked in the Plasmid Biology and Evolution Lab with Álvaro San Millán, and later at ETH Zurich with Alex Hall and Sebastian Bonhoeffer. His research combines clinical microbiology, microbial ecology, and computational biology to investigate the evolutionary and ecological processes that drive antibiotic resistance in microbial ecosystems.

Outside the lab, he enjoys movies/series, photography on mountain hikes, and collecting notebooks he’s too reluctant to write in.
